Meatballs with Tomato Sauce
Total Cook Time
70 minutes
Ingredients
- 900g mince beef
- 110g mozzarella grated
- small bunch of oregano chopped
- 2 eggs
- 1 onion, grated
- 1 garlic clove, crushed
- plain flour for dusting
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- portion of tomato sauce. See tomato sauce recipe!
- fresh basil to garnish
Method
- Mix the beef, mozzarella, oregano, eggs, onion, garlic and pesto in a bowl and add some salt and pepper.
- Fry a small amount, taste and adjust seasoning as required.
- Make meatballs a little bit bigger than golf ball size.
- Roll meatballs in dusting of flour.
- Transfer meatballs to a frying pan and brown over high heat.
- Fill dish with tomato sauce and place meatballs on top.
- Cook in an oven at 200 degrees C for 35 minutes.
Note
Its possible to cook this in a pot for 40 minutes on a low heat. You need to stir regularly otherwise the sauce will stick and burn.
Finely slicing instead of grating works equally well.
